Endodontic treatment

Endodontic treatment, popularly called “root canal treatment” or “nerve removal” involves the removal of infected tissue from the root canals and their obturation (filling) with special materials, which ensure sealing and prevent the recurrence of infection.

Endodontic intervention can make the difference between saving and extracting the tooth.

In 90% of cases, the root canal treatment is completed in a single session, in our clinic. This is due to our doctors’ the experience, good quality materials and existing technology.

The advantage of endodontic treatments under the microscope

  • It offers much better visibility, an enlarged and very clear image. The colors are much better highlighted, and each color can thus be associated with a cause, a symptom.
  • Its precision leads to the establishment of a precise diagnosis.
  • Provides control over infection. In classic endodontic treatments, root canals can be omitted, an aspect that can lead to infection.
  • Broken needles can be viewed and removed from channels.
  • Detects root fractures.
  • It identifies extra canals, canal entry holes, root perforations and calcified canals.
  • It is both financially and time efficient. Endodontic retreatments, caused by not performing the previous cleaning of the tooth canals correctly, usually involve higher costs than the initial treatment.
  • The treatment is not painful as it is performed under anesthesia.

In our clinic, we make an intra-oral film after each endodontic treatment, follow and monitor the long-term evolution of the cases, because the long-term comfort of the patients is our main objective.

We have 3 offices equipped with a microscope and each endodontic treatment is generally completed in one session.

Endodontic retreatment

Endodontic retreatment is necessary when the previous endodontic process proved to be wrong. In our clinic, endodontic retreatments are performed only under a microscope.

The reasons that can lead to the failure of an endodontic treatment can be:

  • The complicated anatomy of root canals was not well appreciated early on;
  • Fracture of a needle in the canal that could not be removed;
  • Placing a filling or crown on the tooth immediately after endodontic treatment was delayed;
  • Perfect isolation was not ensured by contaminating the endodontic space with saliva during treatment.

There is often a misconception that an incorrectly treated tooth cannot be re-treated, but must be extracted, but in our clinic the main objective of the doctors is to save the teeth.

    Term

    When the dentist determines the need for an endodontic treatment, its duration is determined by the complexity of the intervention and the state the nerve is in at the time. Usually,the treatment is completed in a single session, i.e. in about 2 hours.

    Procedure

    More often, a tooth that requires endodontic treatment has a compromised crown. At the end of the root canal treatment, the tooth is reinforced with fiberglass or titanium pivots, which are rebuilt with specific, modern materials. Later, the resistance structure and aesthetics of the tooth are restored by metal-ceramic or all-ceramic crowns.

    X-ray

    Thanks to the state-of-the-art equipment in our clinic, the radiation dose is reduced to a minimum, being lower than the amount of radiation we are exposed to daily.

    Comfort

    Root canal treatment is NOT painful at all, the entire intervention taking place under anesthesia and microscopic control. We analyze and monitor the evolution of long-term cases, because the long-term comfort of patients is a priority.

    The guarantee in our clinic is strictly based on the material chosen for the work, since, according to the ethical code of dentists, it is forbidden to offer a guarantee for medical work.
